We lost Cecile Richards this week — former president of Planned Parenthood and a titan in the fight for reproductive rights.

Cecile was the best of us. A relentless fighter with a heart bigger than Texas.

Her service and her activism — especially during a time when Planned Parenthood and abortion rights were under attack by the far-right — made this movement stronger. Cecile’s courage and commitment helped prevent state laws that were aimed to restrict abortion access and critical reproductive care.

She leaves behind a movement of abortion rights activists who are inspired and prepared to fight in this next phase of this work.

As Cecile shared in her speech at the DNC last August: “One day our children and grandchildren may ask us, ‘When it was all on the line, what did you do?’ And the only acceptable answer is 'everything we could.’”

I’m going to do everything I can in my position to protect abortion rights in America and help patients access the care that they need — no matter how hard the Trump-Vance administration works to rip away our freedoms.

May Cecile’s life and legacy continue to inspire us all to make trouble in the fight for freedom.
