Dear MoveOn member,
In his first hours as president, Donald Trump unleashed a firestorm,
signing 26 executive orders undercutting our freedoms and endangering our
planet.
Trump did the following:
* Pardoned 1,500 convicted January 6 insurrectionists—some of whom
severely injured Capitol Police officers
* Withdrew the United States from the Paris Agreement, paving the way
for more fossil fuel drilling and accelerating the climate
catastrophe—even while wildfires continue to ravage Southern
California
* Shut our doors to refugees and asylum seekers fleeing violence, and
illegally tried to end 150 years of birthright citizenship, which is
protected in the Constitution
Trump has promised "shock and awe"—a strategy designed to sap our will to
fight.^1,2 Trump's team said he would sign 200 executive orders on Day 1;
the actual number was 26.^3
But the truth is, many of these plans will crash and burn—in the courts,
in Congress, and ultimately, with voters, because much of his agenda,
including his Project 2025 objective to cut Social Security and Medicare,
is deeply unpopular.^4
We know that if we organize, we can beat back much of Trump's horrible
agenda.
When Trump was in the White House and Republicans controlled both the
House and the Senate in 2016 and 2017, we still managed to block huge
parts of his agenda, from ending the Affordable Care Act to separating
families at the border.
But we were able to stop the worst Trump policies only because an
overwhelming number of MoveOn members came together. And we can stand up
now, with an overwhelming response. Which is why we're asking:
Can you chip in monthly to help support and sustain MoveOn's critical work
to stand up to Donald Trump and his MAGA agenda?

We've already helped stop Matt Gaetz's appointment as attorney general.
Now, with a razor-thin Republican majority in the House in particular, we
have a real chance of stopping the worst parts of Trump's plans to empower
his billionaire friends at our expense.
But we must act swiftly, so that Trump and MAGA understand that there will
be a strong, highly visible public outcry to his attempts to take away our
freedoms and power, and that we'll use every possible political and legal
tool to fight back.
Can you chip in monthly so that together we can stop the worst parts of
Trump's Project 2025 agenda?

We've come up against seemingly impossible odds before, including the
first Trump administration, and won. By focusing where we do have
leverage, being strategic, not losing sight of our collective power, and
not being distracted by his chaos, we can blunt the worst of Trump's
agenda.
With your help, we will:
* Encourage states to stand up to Trump. State attorneys general have
already sued to stop Trump's birthright citizenship order, which a
federal court already blocked today, and we'll need to push states to
take far more actions like these.^5
* Fight to protect Social Security. The far-right Cato Institute has
prepared a report for Elon Musk's so-called "Department of Government
Efficiency," which calls Social Security a Ponzi scheme, says that
cost-of-living adjustments should be frozen, the eligibility age must
be raised to 70, and that benefits overall should be cut back—all so
that billionaires and corporations can receive more tax cuts.^6
* Work to save Medicare and Medicaid. Project 2025's "antiscience,
antidata, and antimedicine" agenda is poised to "upend medical
practice," push seniors onto managed care programs that enrich
corporate executives at the expense of health care access and quality,
and bring back the old days, before the Affordable Care Act, when
insurance companies could deny coverage to people with preexisting
conditions.^7
* Work to protect public media by pushing Congress to keep funding for
NPR and PBS. For years, Republicans have been trying to eliminate NPR
and PBS but have failed. Now, we expect these pushes to reach a fever
pitch, and we'll need to pull out all the stops to fight back.^8
* Fight for the most vulnerable Americans with clear moral opposition,
protests, and efforts in states across America to beat back policies
that attack immigrants, pregnant people, LGBTQ+ people, and others.
Can you chip in monthly to help us stand up to Trump—no matter how many
executive actions he takes? We can't do it without you!
