Extremist Proud Boys Pardoned for Jan. 6 Insurrection

This week, the Trump administration issued 1,500 pardons and commuted sentences for Jan. 6 insurrectionists, including leaders of extremist organizations including the Proud Boys. The ADL Center on Extremism is closely tracking this violent, antisemitic group. Below is an excerpt from ADL’s backgrounder on their motivations and activities.

The Proud Boys are a right-wing extremist group whose members embrace misogynistic, anti-immigrant, Islamophobic and anti-LGBTQ+ ideologies, among other forms of hate, including antisemitism and white supremacy. The group rose to prominence as an organization of self-described "Western chauvinists” and established itself as a dominant force in far-right circles. At events and protests, the Proud Boys became easily recognizable due to their black and yellow clothing, a makeshift uniform some continue to wear to this day.

The group has actively pursued violence and intimidation as part of its agenda against “antifa” and other perceived enemies. The Proud Boys played an integral role in the January 6 insurrection. Proud Boys account for the highest number of extremist arrestees, with at least 58 members and chapter affiliates across the country apprehended to date.

Wikipedia Disciplines Biased Editors: We welcome the disciplinary action taken against multiple editors by the Wikipedia arbitration committee in the wake of a massive effort by anti-Israel editors to spread misinformation and hate across the platform. Among those banned by Wikipedia from the Israel-Palestine discussion were several editors that ADL has identified as being part of a bad-faith campaign in an attempt to undermine the credibility of ADL. It is imperative for Wikipedia to begin work immediately to undo the harm caused by these rogue editors who have harmed potentially hundreds of entries about Israel, the Oct. 7 massacre, Zionism and topics relating to antisemitism.

A childcare center near a Sydney synagogue was torched and set ablaze. That’s right — a childcare center. The perpetrators also spray-painted the center with anti-Jewish profanity. This is antisemitism. Plain and clear. This is unacceptable. Period.
