Governor Gordon will join Wyoming Association of Municipalities' Big Five Panel Discussion January 24 CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Governor Gordon will participate in the BIG FIVE Panel discussion hosted by the Wyoming Association of Municipalities (WAM) during the organization’s winter conference Friday, January 24, 10 - 10:45 a.m. in the Capitol Auditorium. The Governor will be joined on the panel by State Auditor Kristi Racines, State Treasurer Curt Meier, Secretary of State Chuck Gray, and State Superintendent Megan Degenfelder. Mayors, city and town council members, staff and the WAM executive board are expected to be in attendance at the discussion. The Governor has been forthright in his support of municipalities, local elected leaders, and county commissioners. “Government that is closest to the people best understands their needs and how to support their communities,” said Governor Gordon, who has also been cautious when considering aggressive measures that could strip local communities and schools of necessary funding. “We are fortunate to live in a state that already has the third lowest tax burden in the nation. Whereas I understand personal budgets are tight, and signed four property tax relief bills into law last year, I am concerned about over zealous measures that will hurt our families, seniors, and all who rely on local government services,” the Governor said. In his State of the State address, the Governor spoke on behalf of the citizens statewide. “They don’t want cheap, short-sighted budgets that look good on paper, but may hurt them in their daily lives or cause their kids to leave,” the Governor said.
