Team, earlier this week, H.R. 29/S.5 — a devastatingly harmful bill that will further criminalize Black and brown people of various immigration statuses across the country — passed the House and the Senate and is now heading to Donald Trump’s desk to be signed into law.
A number of Democrats shamefully caved to MAGA fear-mongering and ceded such an important opportunity to block the violent and devastating consequences by voting with Republicans to pass this bill.
Let’s be clear about what this bill does: It will roll back vital due process protections, grant state attorneys general overreaching authority to target and detain immigrants indefinitely, and create the pipeline for Trump’s mass detention and deportation agenda.
In the past week alone, a 5th Circuit court ruled against DACA, and Trump signed a flurry of anti-immigrant Executive Orders.
But we are resilient and have a plan to fight back. To do that, our movement needs even more support than ever before.
