John,
America’s tax system is rigged in favor of the wealthiest corporations. Just 10 mega-corporations, including Apple, JP Morgan Chase, and Microsoft, receive nearly half of all the profits of the 136 American firms on the Global Fortune 500 and they’re paying shockingly low tax rates.[1]
A new joint report by Americans for Tax Fairness and our partners at Accountable.US reveals that over half the benefit of all the loopholes and special breaks in the tax code―$150 billion worth―went to just 25 companies between 2018 and 2022. Apple paid a 14.2% tax rate in 2021, a third less than the statutory rate and a lower rate than the average American family paid that year.
Trump’s 2017 tax law slashed corporate tax rates, delivering billions in savings to big businesses while families struggled with higher costs. Now, Congress is debating whether to extend these disastrous giveaways. We cannot let this happen.
Without action, the Corporate Tax 10 will keep profiting at our expense. Together, we’re working to end this injustice. Yesterday, Rep. Greg Casar―chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus―joined us at the unveiling of this new report to urge Congress to raise the corporate tax rate and close loopholes that rob our communities of critical investments.
Our research and activism are critical in unrigging our tax code and demanding Congress invest in working families. Will you donate $25, $50, or even $100 to help us fight back against corporate tax giveaways and fund critical public investments?
Renewing expiring provisions of the 2017 Trump tax bill would hurt working families while boosting corporate profits. And while corporate lobbyists claim the shockingly low tax rates paid by corporations like those in the Corporate Tax 10 somehow helps workers or our economy, the reality is that corporate tax dodging just helps the bottom line of those huge corporations.
This means less money for affordable housing, lower healthcare costs, and investments in education―and more for the corporations and the ultra rich who own them. The current tax system is an engine of inequality, funneling wealth upwards while everyday families are left behind. Your support helps us fight back and demand a tax code that works for everyone.
We know what’s at stake. Corporations have already spent millions lobbying to protect their tax cuts. But with your help, we can out-organize them. Our grassroots movement is fighting for a fair tax system that puts working families first.
Your contribution powers this fight. Chip in now to demand a fair tax system and stop corporations from dodging their tax responsibilities.
