Dear John,
It has been heartbreaking to watch as the Palisades and Eaton Fires devastate our city. Many in the LAANE community have lost everything—homes, businesses, and livelihoods. Many more are still displaced. We know that many of you reading this email may be grappling with the unimaginable loss and uncertainty brought on by these catastrophic fires. Our hearts are with you as we collectively grieve this still-unfolding tragedy.
Disasters like this underscore the importance of grassroots efforts to build a progressive climate future for Los Angeles. LAANE’s work centers on building a climate-resilient city that delivers benefits to everyone while protecting working families and investing in frontline communities. In that spirit, we have compiled a list of hardship funds that directly benefit workers across the city who have been displaced, lost their livelihoods, or are working tirelessly to assist those who have lost everything. We have also included links to funds supporting the historically significant Black community of Altadena, where residents, many of them older and living in multi-generational households, have been disproportionately affected by the fires.
We ask that you consider donating whatever you can to these efforts as we begin the long and difficult journey of rebuilding, together.
UNITE HERE Local 11 Hardship Fund
In this time of need hotel and food service workers, some of whom are evacuated, lost or suffered severe damage to their own homes, have stepped up across the region to help. From Santa Monica, to Hollywood, Pasadena and beyond they are cooking meals for firefighters, making the beds, and servicing the thousands of families who have been displaced. UNITE HERE Local 11 has launched a hardship fund to assist members affected by this tragedy.

SEIU-USWW: Support Essential Workers in Altadena & Pasadena

UFCW Region 8 Disaster Relief Fund
Devastating fires have swept through Los Angeles, significantly impacting UFCW members. It's been confirmed that at least 25 members have lost their homes, with reports of additional losses coming in daily. Two grocery stores (Ralphs and Gelson’s) and two drug stores (CVS) have also been destroyed. Unfortunately, the full extent of the damage is not yet known. In the immediate aftermath, members are struggling to find temporary housing and meet basic daily needs. To support them, we have reopened the UFCW Region 8 Disaster Relief Fund.
LCS Los Angeles Fire Relief Fund
For over six decades, LCS (in partnership with Los Angeles County Federation of Labor) has been assisting unemployed and underemployed union families with groceries during the year via pantries, the National Association of Letter Carriers Annual Food Drive, and holiday meal distribution. As we look at the rough road ahead, we ask for your support by donating to our Los Angeles Fire Relief Fund. These funds will be used to provide the basic essentials that will serve as building blocks to restoring a sense of normalcy in the lives of those who have been impacted. In addition, LCS is ready to accept donations of goods that will be distributed to those at emergency relief shelters.
NDLON Immigrant Fire Relief Fund
From the first days since the disaster began, the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON) has been helping survivors to find safety, stability and comfort. Our Pasadena Community Job Center, at 500 N. Lake Avenue, is serving as a relief hub for Pasadena and Altadena, providing temporary shelter, food, water, and emergency kits. Every morning, truck crews from our Volunteer Fire Relief Brigade head out to clear fallen trees and debris from streets and sidewalks. Volunteers load up cars with water, food, diapers, clothing and other necessities.
