Working Families Party

John,

Donald Trump’s second — and final — term as president is now underway, and so far, it’s every bit as chaotic and disorienting as we feared.

And that’s because the goal of ANY tyrannical regime is to start so many political fires that the opposition can’t react fast enough. It’s the playbook they used in 2017, and they’re using it again now.

Some of the key actions from Trump so far include:

  • Pardoning and commuting the sentences of over 1,500 participants in the January 6th insurrection, including far-right extremists from the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers who were convicted on charges of violent offenses and seditious conspiracy.
  • Preparing to increase deportations of immigrants as soon as this week, and giving ICE the explicit authority to stage raids on churches and schools.
  • Reversing Biden’s Executive Order that would have lowered prescription drug prices for millions of people on Medicare.
  • Withdrawing the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement AND the World Health Organization.
  • Quickly ingratiating himself with the tech billionaires in charge of virtually every major social media platform in the country — giving them seats of honor at the inauguration and even within his administration.
  • And much, much more.

It’s all a lot to take in. But we can’t allow ourselves to be swept away in the media frenzy, or to tune out entirely.

Instead, we are going to remain laser focused on our own strategy: of building a strong, multiracial, working class movement. One that is sharing vital resources with our neighbors. One that affirms that the status quo has NOT been working for working people — and keeps the spotlight on the billionaire class and their attempts to divide us. And one that is aggressively applying pressure on state and federal officials to utilize all the tools in their arsenal to combat Trump, legislatively and in the courts.

If you agree with this strategy, please consider making WFP your political home in 2025. Here are a few ways you can get involved:

  1. Join our first post-inauguration Mass Call TONIGHT, January 23rd, from 8-9pm ET. We’ll be breaking down the first week of Trump’s administration, and laying the groundwork for how to combat him.

  2. Sign up for our next candidate recruitment training — Working Folks Win! — on February 5th. We can’t rely on the Democratic establishment to right the ship. We need working class candidates of our own in positions of power all across the country.

  3. Make a donation today to fuel our efforts as we continue to cut through the noise and oppose Trump and his tech-billionaire allies.

Most importantly, don’t give into despair.

Trump and his team promised they would “rain shock and awe” down on all of us at the start of his presidency. That’s exactly what they’ve been trying to do this week.

But how we respond, and what we do next, is entirely in our hands. When we come together, we have the power. And if we continue to stick together, we can and will see this through.

In solidarity,

Team WFP
