![]() The 14th Amendment clearly states that if you are born in the United States, you are a citizen of the United States. But one of Donald Trump’s first actions as president was to sign an executive order to end birthright citizenship, a well-established and longstanding principle of the Constitution. This blatant attempt to violate the 14th Amendment is unconstitutional and un-American. Colorado is home to a number of vibrant immigrant communities that have contributed to our economy and made our state stronger — but this executive order places a countless number of legal immigrants at risk. This executive order is already up against a mountain of legal challenges — and I am confident they will find that Trump has no authority to flagrantly disregard the text of the 14th Amendment. But in the meantime, we need to make sure Washington hears our voices loud and clear.
