Indivisibles,

Pete Hegseth was already the most dangerous nominee for Secretary of Defense in modern history. But yesterday, we learned of new allegations against him. In an affidavit sent to senators, his former sister-in-law revealed disturbing claims that Hegseth’s second wife feared for her safety because of his behavior.

Hegseth’s former sister-in-law, Danielle Hegseth, came forward at great personal risk to share her account of his abusive behavior and volatile temperament. In her sworn affidavit, she revealed that she took this courageous step despite knowing it would subject her and her family to public scrutiny, stating, “I am deeply concerned by what Hegseth’s confirmation would mean for our military and our country.”

If you don’t want an allegedly abusive MAGA extremist to be our next Secretary of Defense, your senators need to hear from you ASAP.

These allegations are damning on their own -- but here’s the kicker: She disclosed this information to the FBI weeks ago, and the Trump team failed to inform senators during Hegseth’s confirmation briefing.

What we already knew about Hegseth should have been enough to disqualify anyone from this position:

  • As recently as November, Hegseth stated his belief that women should not serve in combat roles, a stance that undermines decades of progress in the military.
  • At a work event, Hegseth reportedly got drunk and shouted, “Kill all Muslims.”
  • He’s faced multiple accusations of sexual assault or misconduct and was heard drunkenly shouting “no means yes” while leaving a bar. His own mother called him an “abuser of women.”
  • He’s never led a large organization in his life, and he was allegedly pushed out of the small nonprofits he managed for financial mismanagement and harassment.
  • He’s refused to say whether he’d follow illegal orders, like shooting unarmed protesters or enabling mass deportations.

Now, with new reports that credible allegations of abuse were buried by Trump’s team, it’s clear: Pete Hegseth isn’t just unqualified -- he’s dangerous. And we have no idea what else Trump and his cronies could be hiding.

Trump has made it clear he’s ready to deploy the military to crush dissent. Hegseth -- with his writings on that the left must be "categorically defeated" and his answers during his confirmation hearing -- has made it clear he’s ready to use the military to carry out Trump’s authoritarian aspirations. That’s why Trump picked him.

Every day that passes, the evidence against Hegseth grows darker. Hegseth’s nomination has already passed the committee, and the only step left is a confirmation vote from the full Senate. If we’re going to stop this dangerous nomination, we have to act now. Every call, every email, and every bit of pressure counts.

P.S. -- Confirmation hearings for two of Trump's other dangerous nominees have just been scheduled. Kash Patel (FBI) and RFK Jr. (Department of Health and Human Services) will have their first hearings on January 29. Visit our nominations resource page to learn more and take action.
