The movement to end the Electoral College is making progress, John: Minnesota joined the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact and Maine's state legislature is working to join as well.
If you don't remember -- The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC) is an agreement among a group of U.S. states and the District of Columbia to award all their electoral votes to whichever presidential candidate wins the overall popular vote in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. 17 states plus DC have now joined.
Minnesota brought 10 electoral votes, and Maine 4, now accounting for 209 Electoral College votes of the 270 needed to win the election and totaling 78% of what is needed to make the popular vote the law of the land. Minnesota passed a slate of voting rights protections alongside joining the compact as well, which represents huge progress.
Whether it's through the NPVIC or one of the other legal alternatives, ending the Electoral College forever is a big priority.
