Race + Power Weekly

In these turbulent times, with the challenges posed by shifting political landscapes under a second Trump administration, resilience and advocacy are more important than ever. Today’s Race + Power newsletter explores how systemic inequities intersect with immigration, transgender rights, and broader societal narratives—and how, through community advocacy and strategic preparation, we can defend justice and promote equity.

The looming specter of mass deportations under the Trump administration has crystalized for undocumented immigrants, their families, and communities in the wake of Trump’s immediate executive orders on border security and immigration. However, there are tangible resources and actions to help prepare for what lies ahead. Community organizations, legal networks, and advocacy groups are equipping immigrants with knowledge and tools to protect their rights and fight back.

The Trump administration also poses significant threats to transgender rights. Transgender people are racing to update legal documents, secure healthcare, and build protective networks. Advocacy groups are drawing inspiration from strategies pioneered by abortion funds and grassroots organizers in the South, working to defend and expand local protections.

It's no stretch to say that we are living in a time of profound change and uncertainty, with growing anxiety around societal norms, political institutions, and identity. Perhaps now more than ever, the stories we tell—and the frameworks we choose to understand these shifts—will shape the future we inhabit. Nonprofit leaders and community organizers have a unique responsibility to craft narratives that bridge divides and inspire hope rather than exacerbate polarization and fear.

Nonprofit and philanthropic leaders will be called upon to defend hard-won progress and advance justice under an administration poised to undo many reforms. So, join us for a webinar on Thursday, February 20, at 2:00 pm ET, where experts will discuss:
    • Advocacy strategies for executive, judicial, and legislative threats.
    • Legal and practical considerations for nonprofits under 501c3 compliance.
    • Tools for mobilizing communities and protecting vulnerable populations.

Register here to learn how to stay prepared and resilient in the face of these challenges.
