Hello Democrats,
Welcome to days 3-4 of our 100 Days of Action series where we share updates and actions you can take around the first 100 days of the new administration and our 2025 state legislative session. We aim to keep you informed and empowered with the tools you need to make your voice heard. Our elected leaders need to hear from you and we'll help you get loud!
After taking the oath of office surrounded by billionaire donors, President Trump signed more than 200 divisive and politically-motivated executive actions. None of them do anything meaningful to lower the cost of living for hardworking American taxpayers.
Trump signed an executive order rescinding the Biden-Harris order to lower drug costs following through on his dangerous plans to increase the costs of drugs to appease his billionaire backers. The Biden-Haris administration took on Big Pharma and won. Meanwhile, Trump is again proving that he lied to the American people and doesn’t care about lowering costs – only what’s best for himself and his ultra-rich friends.
Trump also declared a national emergency at the US-Mexico border ([link removed]) , triggering the use of Military personnel to be deployed and used at our border. Meanwhile, Trump is withdrawing the US from the Paris Climate Agreement
([link removed]) and the World Health Organization
([link removed]) .
Americans across races, places and parties value our freedoms and so we watched in horror as violent insurrectionists attacked our country on January 6, 2020 incited by Trump and MAGA Republicans. Now that the MAGA Justices on the Supreme Court aided Trump’s criminal conspiracy and paved his way back to power, Trump pardoned the few people who were held accountable for breaking into our Capitol, killing people trying to defend our nation, and terrorizing our representatives. Now, it’s time to turn our horror and disgust into action.
Republicans have introduced a state concealed carry reciprocity bill in both the House and the Senate. This bill would infringe on states' rights to set their own gun laws and override all state large capacity magazine bans. Our Congressman Mike Haridopolos has already cosponsored the bill in the House. In the Senate, Rick Scott has cosponsored the bill but Senator Ashley Moody has not. She needs to hear from you.
TAKE ACTION: Call Senator Moody's D.C. office at 202-224-3041 and use the following script:
Hi, I’m a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is _______. I’m deeply concerned by the bill S.65 which tramples on states' rights to set their own gun laws. Please let my Senator know that, as a Florida constituent, I'm urging her to withhold her support for this bill. Again, it is S.65.
(leave a message if you get a voicemail)
Today, House representatives will be on the House floor debating the House GOP Reproductive Health Care Surveillance Act, H.R.21. ([link removed]) Our Congressman, Mike Haridopolos has already cosponsored this bill assuring his vote for it to pass out of the House which is expected to happen today. This is why we must take urgent action when bills are filed to get ahead of our elected leaders cosponsorship and make our voices heard while we can still make a difference.
The Laken Riley Act passed out of the Senate on Tuesday with both of our senators voting for the bill. Then on Wednesday it passed out of the House with our Congressman Mike Haridopolos voting for the bill ([link removed]) . The bill, which creates more problems than it solves and makes our country less safe, will now become law.
Watch as Senator Murphy explains more below.

President Trump issued an executive order ([link removed]) emphasizing the interpretation of the Fourteenth Amendment regarding birthright citizenship, clarifying that citizenship is not automatically granted to all individuals born in the United States. It specifies that children born in the U.S. to mothers who are unlawfully present, or lawfully present temporarily (e.g., on tourist or student visas), and whose fathers are not U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents, are not entitled to U.S. citizenship. This policy, effective for individuals born 30 days after the order’s issuance, directs federal agencies to ensure compliance and prohibits recognizing citizenship documents for individuals falling within these categories. The order includes definitions and safeguards to align its implementation with existing laws while excluding it from creating enforceable legal
rights.

Florida House and Senate leaders on Monday canceled committee meetings scheduled this week due to pending winter weather and possible snow. They were not scheduled to be in Tallahassee next week, but Gov. DeSantis called a special session about a series of issues, including the petition process for ballot initiatives and making changes to help carry out President Donald Trump's immigration policies ([link removed]) . Lawmakers are holding committee meetings during the first three weeks of February.in the run-up to the regular legislative session, which will start March 4. Meetings that had been scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday will be shifted to Jan. 28 and Jan. 29 "with some slight adjustments."
Perez and Albritton have balked at holding the special session ([link removed]) , saying it would be premature and pointing to the upcoming start of the regular session. But lawmakers are "constitutionally required to be in Tallahassee" on Jan. 27 after DeSantis called the special session. It remains unclear what lawmakers will address during the special session. In addition to immigration enforcement, DeSantis has said he wants to use the special session to address issues such as providing aid to hurricane victims; replenishing money for the My Safe Florida Home hardening program; revamping rules for ballot initiatives; and revising condominium safety laws.
It’s not surprising that this publicity stunt won’t do anything to address the property insurance crisis or our skyrocketing cost of living. Instead, DeSantis is attacking the ballot initiative process with a proposal ([link removed]) that would kill the ability for voters to change the constitution on their own. Even his own party leaders disagree with the call for a special session so close to the start of legislative session. The people of Florida deserve better from their government.
Previously Shared Calls to Action
Trump's choice of Fox News host Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense is a disaster. Pete Hegseth’s confirmation as Secretary of Defense would pose a grave threat to our freedoms and our national security. As constituents, our voices matter! Tell our senators to vote NO.
TAKE ACTION: Email our Senators now using THIS LINK ([link removed]) or THIS LINK ([link removed])
House Republicans have introduced a bill ([link removed]) to repeal the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. This Act saves older Americans billions in health care costs. As of now, our House Representative Mike Haridopolos ([link removed]) has not yet cosponsored this bill. He needs to hear from us!
TAKE ACTION: Call Rep. Haridopolos' DC office at (202) 225-3671 and read the following script:
My name is ______. I live in zip code ________ and I urge my Representative to withhold support for HR191. This bill would significantly increase costs for millions of Americans. HR191 would overturn the cap on insulin costs and the $2,000 cap on out-of-pocket precrription drug copayments for millions of older Americans. Floridians simply cannot afford for this bil to pass or for our Congressman to support this bill. Can I count on the Congressman to vote NO on HR191?
Republicans, led by Mike Johnson, are trying to condition aid to CA during their moment of need.
TAKE ACTION: Call our Republican House member, Mike Haridopolos and Speaker Johnson and tell them to stop threatening to withhold aid to CA!
.
Mike Johnson’s office is (202) 225-4000
Rep. Haridopolos office is (202) 225-3671
Say:
Hi, I’m a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is _______. I’m deeply concerned and angered by Republican threats to hold aid for California hostage to a debt ceiling increase. It is immoral and repugnant. California is literally subsidizing the rest of the United States, red states in particular, through the federal budget. How dare anyone withhold funds from them in their moment of need, or tie that aid to anything? Give California what they need, no strings attached. Thank you.
