For UNICEF, empowering children’s mental health goes hand in hand with supporting their physical health.
Why? Because across the globe, existential threats like violent conflict, climate change and other crises are taking a heavy toll on children and affecting the mental well-being of an entire generation. Poor mental health in children and young people is one of the top causes of death, disease and disability in this stage of life.
With your support, UNICEF can provide psychosocial support, counseling and vocational and life skills training to help children cope and recover. Make a gift of $20 or more to strengthen UNICEF’s work for children’s mental health.
UNICEF’s efforts to promote positive children’s mental health span far and wide to ensure that children receive help early on and throughout their development.
In Syria, UNICEF has been providing mental health support to children who have experienced conflict, insecurity and other adversity. Through play and learning, children are expressing themselves and improving their communication skills.
In Mexico, UNICEF and partners have distributed mental health kits to support migrant children to address the trauma they experienced. This work prioritizes early protection and intervention to prevent life-long mental health impacts.
In Türkiye, UNICEF has been on the front lines meeting the essential mental health needs of children. In response to crises, UNICEF has distributed recreational kits with emotion cubes that help children express themselves when words are hard to find. In addition, children are receiving supportive and responsive care in UNICEF-supported child-friendly spaces.
Globally, historic under-investment in mental health has led to huge shortfalls in services for children — especially where the need is greatest.
This year, UNICEF plans to close the gap and reach 20.6 million children with community-based mental health and psychosocial support. With your help, this level of support can be achieved for every child whose mental health is at risk. Give to extend UNICEF’s impact to care for children’s mental health around the world >>
