Our speaker will be Erica Cirino, writer, artist, and author. She is best known for her widely published photojournalistic works that cut through plastic/fossil fuel industry misinformation to deliver the truths about plastic—the most ubiquitous and insidious manmade material on Earth. This includes her award-winning book,
Thicker Than Water: The Quest for Solutions to the Plastic Crisis , She is a recipient of fellowships from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, a gold Nautilus Book Award, and several awards for visual art. Cirino took on the role of communications manager of the nonprofit
Plastic Pollution Coalition in 2022.
Ericia will speak to us about the latest in plastic pollution legislation and update us on the work the plastic pollution coalition is doing.
This is the number one issue our members have voted to work on this year, among, food and agricultural issues including reducing food waste, trees and the environmental impact, and educating the public on environmental issues. A close 5th was data centers. Of course, throughout the year we will look at issues as they arise. Looks like a busy year ahead.
