Dear John,
This Monday, January 27, Canadian Jews will stand united with
a global movement to remember the six million Jewish children, women,
and men murdered in the Holocaust. This year, International
Holocaust Remembrance Day marks the 80th anniversary
of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. We
also remember, with gratitude, the Righteous Among
the Nations for their courage and
heroism.
Now more than ever, after 15 months of rising
antisemitism, we must stand together against hatred in all its forms.
International Holocaust Remembrance Day offers us a critical moment to
reflect on the atrocities of the past and work toward a future where
“Never Again” is more than a promise – it is a
reality.
There are
many ways to participate,
including:
-
Join the World Jewish Congress' (WJC) #WeRemember
campaign – the largest global
Holocaust commemoration to honour the victims of the
Shoah. It’s easy. Take a photo of
yourself, your family, or your friends holding a ‘We
Remember’ sign, and share it on social media between
now and January 27 using the hashtag #WeRemember. Tag @cijainfo and
WJC (@worldjewishcong on X, @worldjewishcongress on Facebook and
Instagram), and use these
social
captions.
-
Tune in, at 11 a.m. on January 27,
to the
livestream of the annual commemoration of
International Holocaust Remembrance Day at the National Holocaust
Monument in Ottawa.
-
Look out for important landmark illuminations. On
Monday night, dozens of Canadian sites, such as BC Place in Vancouver,
Niagara Falls, and Toronto's CN Tower, will be illuminated in yellow
– evoking candlelight to honour the victims and Survivors
of the Holocaust. For a full list of the illuminated sites, click here.
Together, let us renew our collective vow: Never
Again.
