But Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has already announced what the rest of the world knows: this name change is nothing but a hollow, racist declaration of American dominance. Global maps, schools, and leaders will continue to call it the Gulf of Mexico.
This isn’t an absurd vanity project, it’s a direct attack on American education.
Trump’s decree is designed to force American schools to embrace his imperialist agenda by rewriting global geography, erasing non-American contributions, and stoking nationalist propaganda.
Trump’s renaming reflects the worst of his worldview: anything America touches is ours, regardless of history or reality. This is the same arrogance that drives his threats to annex Greenland, take over the Panama Canal by force, and call Canada the 51st state.

Our children deserve better. They already have to grow up with Trump as their president, let’s make sure they aren’t taught Trump’s version of reality too.
We must protect public education. The Gulf of America does not exist. Demand public schools teach students the same facts as the rest of the world no matter what Trump decrees.
