52 years ago today, the Supreme Court enshrined a woman’s constitutional right to make her own private health care decisions in Roe v. Wade. Three years ago, extreme right-wing Supreme Court Justices appointed by Donald Trump ripped those rights away. The GOP immediately pounced, passing draconian abortion bans here in Georgia and in states across the country — a devastating outcome that Trump has proudly claimed credit for. Today, with Donald Trump back in the White House and Republicans controlling Congress, abortion rights are at risk more now than ever before. Trump has even said there should be “punishment” for women who receive abortions. Meanwhile, Democrats here in Georgia and across the country are working to enshrine reproductive rights into law, protecting women’s fundamental freedom to control their own health care decisions.
