Would you believe that Jason and Donald Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, actually have something in common?

Both served as combat veterans. Regrettably, that’s where the similarities end. While Jason and Hegseth both served this country in uniform, it’s clear that Hegseth learned a different lesson from his service than Jason did.

As a paratrooper and Army Ranger in Iraq and Afghanistan, Jason learned what it means to serve and do right by the American people. He put his life on the line every day to protect his country and fellow soldiers — regardless of their race, gender, or background.

Since leaving the military, Hegseth has consistently undercut the commitment and service of the hundreds of thousands of women who serve in the U.S. military by arguing that women should not serve in uniform.

Someone like this has no business being in charge of our troops.

Jason’s military service was defined by a shared sense of duty, devotion, and sacrifice. He fought alongside men and women overseas — and the only thing that mattered was their commitment to our country and their fellow soldiers, not their gender.

Right now, women are serving our country all across the world in some of the most dangerous locations imaginable — all for the freedom of every American, including Pete Hegseth. They deserve to continue to have the opportunity to serve in combat units just as they’ve been doing.
