Gov. Whitmer Celebrates Stellantis Decision to Invest in Michigan, Support American Autoworkers Stellantis announces plan to build next gen Dodge Durango at Detroit Assembly Complex, protecting good-paying, union auto jobs
LANSING, Mich. – Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer released the following statement after Stellantis announced their plans to invest in American auto manufacturing, including building the next generation Dodge Durango at their Detroit Assembly Complex. Stellantis and Governor Whitmer share a commitment to investing in American workers and bringing manufacturing and supply chains back home.
“Throughout Michigan, auto manufacturing is critical to the strength of our economy. We don’t care what you drive—gas, hybrid, or electric—we just care that it’s made right here in Michigan.
“I’m proud that Stellantis is doubling down on the Motor City in 2025 with their announcement that the next generation Dodge Durango will be made by union autoworkers at Detroit Assembly. I look forward to working with the UAW, our auto manufacturers and suppliers, and President Trump to keep creating and supporting good-paying American jobs.
“In my Road Ahead Address, I spoke about the ongoing competition between Michigan and other states and nations, including China, to lead the future of the auto industry. Today’s announcement builds on our leadership and allows us to keep doing what we do best—building the world’s best cars and trucks.”
