Policy: Trump Executive Orders Have Not Changed Public Charge Policy
On the first day of his new administration Monday, January 20, Trump issued a series of executive orders, several related to immigration. Immigrant families need to know this has not changed public charge policy at this time. New Materials: USCIS Public Charge Fact Sheet for Gender-Based Violence Survivors
We worked with our partners at the Asian Pacific Institute on Gender-Based Violence (API-GBV) to engage U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in developing a public charge fact sheet tailored for sexual assault or domestic violence survivors. The fact sheet [[link removed]] , “How Receiving Public Benefits Might Impact the Public Charge Ground of Inadmissibility,” explains that programs and services specific to the needs of survivors are not considered in public charge determinations. Please share this important resource with your networks to help spread accurate information to immigrants in need of these supports.

Webinar: Preparing for ICE Raids at Homeless Services & Shelters
In anticipation of possible raids for undocumented immigrants by ICE agents at homeless service providers and shelters, the National Low Income Housing Coalition and the National Homelessness Law Center will host a joint webinar on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids at homeless services and shelters this Thursday, January 23, at 2:00pm ET. The webinar will offer practical guidance for service providers about what to do before, during, and after any such attempted raid to protect both staff and clients from harm. Research: KFF Research on Immigrant Health Coverage
KFF has published a series of briefs on health coverage for immigrants. The briefs, “ Children of Immigrants: Key Facts on Health Coverage and Care [[link removed]] ,” “ Key Facts on Health Coverage of Immigrants [[link removed]] ,” and “ State Health Coverage for Immigrants and Implications for Health Coverage and Care [[link removed]] ,” utilize the 2023 KFF/LA Times Survey of Immigrants to provide an overview of health coverage for immigrants and describe the potential impacts of Trump administration policies limiting eligibility. Beyond detailing the impacts of Trump-era policies on immigrant healthcare, the briefs explore the broader ramifications of these policies for the economy and workforce.

Advocacy: Refugee Advocacy Toolkit for Community Engagement
Refugee Council USA (RCUSA) has prepared a new Refugee Advocacy Toolkit [[link removed]] , a how-to guide to help educate and mobilize communities to engage with elected officials on the importance of welcoming refugees. The toolkit contains handouts tailored for each state, social media graphics and sample text, letter templates for reaching out to elected officials, and more. For quick and easy engagement with the toolkit, RCUSA has also prepared a Quick Reference Guide [[link removed]] outlining how to best utilize the toolkit’s resources and information.

In anticipation of a year full of attacks by anti-immigrant and anti-safety net politicians, we’ve compiled a checklist of actions that you, your colleagues, and your coalitions can take right now to prepare. The checklist is available in English [[link removed]] and Spanish [[link removed]] . Many thanks to Andrea Kovach of the Shriver Center on Poverty Law for sharing her great content to create much of this checklist, as well as PIF’s State Policy Working Group, which reviewed and added to the document. Please share this checklist with any and all advocates in your networks - even if immigrants and the safety net aren't core to their mission - we want everyone to have access to these suggestions and to take on items on this checklist.
