Dear John,
I am pleased to bring you some exciting news!
Officers of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Fair Elections have secured a major debate on Proportional Representation for general elections to take place in the Commons Chamber on Thursday 30 January.
The debate was granted following a successful application to the Backbench Business Committee by Alex Sobel MP, Lisa Smart MP, and Ellie Chowns MP – with support from a substantial number of MPs from across the political spectrum.
This is an important opportunity to boost our campaign to replace the outdated and unfair First Past the Post system with a proportional system that truly represents the voices of all voters. We intend to use this debate to highlight the public’s growing disatisfaction with First Past the Post and increasingly urgent demands to find a replacement.
During the debate, members of the APPG will be pushing for the establishment of a National Commission on Electoral Reform, tasked with designing a fairer and more democratic voting system to replace First Past the Post, and to do so in time for the change to be implemented before the next general election.
HERE’S HOW YOU CAN HELP…
To ensure the strongest possible case is made, we need as many MPs as possible to participate in this debate. You can help by writing to your MP today to encourage them to speak up for a better, fairer democracy.
