Here’s a look at just a few actions President Trump took on Day One:
Withdrawing from the Paris Agreement
Blocking funding intended to fight climate change and reduce pollution
Threatening the EPA’s authority to regulate greenhouse gases
Blocking offshore and onshore wind development
Opening up federal lands and waters to oil & gas drilling
One thing is clear: Republicans in power are all too happy to ignore the pressing climate concerns of our time. But ignoring this problem does not make it go away.
Ignoring how fossil fuels raise the Earth’s temperature will not prevent more fires like the ones still burning in Los Angeles, destroying communities and displacing tens of thousands of people.
Ignoring the pollution caused by gas-powered cars will not improve air quality or reduce rates of childhood asthma, among other respiratory illnesses that affect Americans’ daily lives.
Ignoring dwindling populations of endangered species will not protect them or the delicate balance of our ecosystems, which provide Americans with resources and even livelihoods.
