*Media Update: Eaton and Palisades Fires 1/22/25*

Here are the latest updates from LA County's Coordinated Joint Information Center as of 10 a.m. on Jan. 22, 2025. 

 

*Los Angeles County Recovers Press Conference*

This morning, officials provided the latest updates on the process now underway to recover from the devastating Palisades and Eaton fires, including the progress of repopulation efforts, damage inspections, details about debris removal, launch of a new County portal for wildfire relief donations [ [link removed] ], and public health guidance to help people return safely to their properties. *Eaton Fire*  [ [link removed] ]


* Fire Size: 14,021 acres, 91% contained
* Structures Threatened: 6,775
* Structures Damaged: 1,073
* Structures Destroyed: 9,418 
* Note: Does not include structures believed destroyed, but pending confirmation.

 

*Palisades Fire*  [ [link removed] ]


* Fire Size: 23,448 acres, 68% contained
* Structures Threatened: 12,417
* Structures Damaged: 890 
* Structures Destroyed: 6,662 
* Note: Does not include structures believed destroyed, but pending confirmation.

 

*Forecasted Rain*

There is a potential storm expected to enter the region on Saturday, Jan. 25, and last through Monday, Jan. 27. The latest forecast calls for a quarter to a half inch of rain with 10-20% chance of thunderstorms. Call the Los Angeles County Public Works 24-hour Dispatch Center to report storm-related damage, traffic signal outages, flooding or other concerns at 1-800-675-HELP (4357).

 

*National Weather Service Issues Red Flag Warning*

Due to extremely low relative humidity and periods of gusty offshore winds, a red flag warning is in effect through Thursday [ [link removed] ] until 8 PM for most of Los Angeles County.

*Casualties* 

The LA County Medical Examiner has confirmed 27 deaths as a result of the fires. The office continues investigating these deaths and will update their website with additional cases [ [link removed] ] if more deaths are determined during search and rescue operations.
