The Senate will vote by the end of the week on the nomination for Pete Hegseth to be Secretary of Defense. He is unqualified in many ways for this extremely important job. He has only run two organizations, and they were small veterans charities, and he mismanaged them both. Now he wants to manage three million people and an $850 billion budget.
Hegseth's personal life would have been disqualifying in the past, but he has promised to stop drinking if he gets the job. He opposes women in the military, but since being nominated he says the opposite. You can use our Action Alert to send your Senators an email telling them to vote no on the Hegseth nomination.
Our concern here is his obvious Christian nationalism. He complains about ideologies that “turn off the young, patriotic, Christian men who have traditionally filled our ranks.” He once chanted “Kill All Muslims! Kill All Muslims!”, allegedly. He is an admirer of the Crusades and has said that if you enjoy the benefits of western civilization, “thank a crusader.” He would be in charge of 900,000 people who do not list themselves as Christian, and that’s a problem.
Please use our Action Alert to tell your Senators to oppose the Hegseth nomination.
