Hey John, Today marks the 52nd anniversary of the landmark decision Roe v. Wade – a Supreme Court decision that said the right to bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom is protected by the Constitution. And we know the protections of Roe v. Wade are no longer. While reproductive rights and abortion care are safe and protected here in Oregon, anti-choice extremists nationwide have used the Dobbs decision that overturned Roe to send us back to the dark ages on reproductive rights. The Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision shook the foundation of reproductive freedoms we took for granted. Since then, the country has faced wave after wave of attacks from every corner — activist groups, conservative judges, state legislatures – you name it. Over 20 states, including our neighbors in Idaho, have imposed harsh restrictions or outright bans on abortion. For so many folks in Idaho, the closest they can get to safe reproductive health care is by coming to Oregon. That's one reason I'm proud of Oregon’s strong stance on protecting reproductive rights. But we have to fight on. The Dobbs decision reminds us that no right is untouchable with the current Supreme Court. That’s why I've teamed up with 20 governors across the country to be part of the Reproductive Freedom Alliance. Together, we’re a nonpartisan coalition working to safeguard and advance reproductive freedom. We governors represent over 170 million Americans, and we’re fighting to ensure their rights are protected. Here in Oregon, we aren’t backing down. When there were moves to threaten access to mifepristone, I secured a three-year supply to ensure continuous availability of this medication abortion.
