Asma , a 27-year-old woman was attending a prenatal appointment when shells hit Al-Saudi Maternity Hospital in Sudan late last year.

Dr. Suhiba , a gynecologist, was in the middle of performing a medical procedure during the strikes:

“I was performing surgery in the hospital when heavy shelling occurred. A mortar hit the hospital. I was so worried because the woman's wounds were open, and everyone was running around me,” Dr. Suhiba told us.

The war in Sudan has triggered a major humanitarian catastrophe in the country impacting millions of women and children who desperately need medical attention, maternal health care, equipment, and safe shelters to raise their families.

The Sudanese people are facing one of the worst nutrition crises in the world, and very few hospitals remain standing.

UNFPA has been on the ground in Sudan deploying mobile health clinics and midwives in areas of high need and where access to health and protection services is limited.
