Democratic states sue Trump over effort to end birthright citizenship
That was fast. 18 attorneys general from a slew of states and Washington, DC, have sued the Trump administration for its wildly unconstitutional attempt to repeal birthright citizenship — ya know, the thing enshrined in Amendment #14 of the US Constitution. "The president’s executive order attempting to rescind birthright citizenship is blatantly unconstitutional and quite frankly, un-American. The President has overstepped his authority by a mile with this order, and we will hold him accountable," said California's Attorney General Rob Bronta. Now it's time to see if the Supreme Court will be willing to defend the Constitution or will simply act as a rubber stamp for the MAGA cult leader and his openly fascistic agenda.

Idaho GOP launches shocking attack on marriage equality
Human Rights Campaign: Republicans in the Idaho legislature have filed a new resolution calling on the Supreme Court to repeal the right to same-sex marriage across the country. Though largely symbolic, this brazen attack is just the latest threat to LGBTQ+ rights, and demonstrates the persistent danger our community faces. That’s why the Human Rights Campaign is gearing up to fight for equality at the federal level, in state legislatures and in courts across the nation — because we need to stay vigilant and we need ordinary people to stand up and take action. New Pete Hegseth affadavit puts awful behavior into fuller focus
The hits just keep coming for All-American scumbag Pete Hegseth, Trump's nominee for freaking secretary of the Defense Department. Among the most recent allegations are that Samantha, Pete's second wife, once hid in a closet once from Pete, that she developed escape plans for use "if she felt she needed to get away from Hegseth" that would be activated with a code word, and that she did, in fact, once put said escape plans into action. When reached for comment, his ex-wife said, "There was no physical abuse in my marriage. This is the only further statement I will make to you," which tellingly does NOT deny allegations — the threat of violence can be as psychologically damaging as a physical blow itself. Other new reporting from The Wall Street Journal — ya know, the reliably conservative newspaper known for carrying Republicans' water — alleges that Hegseth "routinely passed out" from alcohol abuse. This guy needs rehab, therapy, and probably several restraining orders on him. What he definitely does not need is to be put in charge of the world's most powerful military.

Furious Trump supporters slam bishop urging Christian tolerance for migrants, LGBTQ community
Trump's rabid MAGA allies in the GOP showed once again their devotion to, uh, the teachings of Jesus Christ by calling for the DEPORTATION of the New Jersey bishop who had the nerve to ask Trump to show mercy to the LGBTQ community and immigrants during yesterday's inaugural prayer at the National Cathedral. Georgia Rep. Mike Collins said, "The person giving this sermon should be added to the deportation list," while sentient jockstrap and world's dumbest American Sen. Tommy Tuberville said that "these ‘trans children’ should live in fear of their parents." It is shocking to see how far down the rabbit hole of degenerate cruelty the GOP has fallen, and terrifying to think of how far left they can still go.

Rare snowstorm brings freezing temps across the deep South
You read that right. There are snowball fights on Bourbon Street and enterprising Louisianans have discovered their airboats also work on snow. Elsewhere, parts of Florida received 7 inches of snow, Lake Charles, Louisiana, issued its first-ever blizzard warning, and winter weather SHUT DOWN both of Houston's major airports. This is unprecedented, definitely related to climate change, and oh my god Trump just withdrew us from the Paris climate accords again. Probably some kind of hell-freezing-over metaphor to be found here.
Israel launches "significant" military operation in West Bank, at least 9 Palestinians killed
Israeli security forces backed by helicopters raided the volatile West Bank city of Jenin on Tuesday, in what Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called a "large-scale and significant military operation." Palestinian health services said at least nine Palestinians were killed and 35 wounded in the Israeli raid, which continued well into the night. A week earlier, an Israeli air strike in the Jenin refugee camp killed at least three Palestinians and wounded scores more. Since the October 2023 start of the war in Gaza, hundreds of Palestinians and dozens of Israelis have been killed in the West Bank and Israel and thousands of Palestinians have been detained in regular Israeli raids. Late on Monday, bands of Israeli settlers attacked Palestinians, smashing cars and burning property around the village of al-Funduq, near Qalqilya, an area where three Israelis were killed in a shooting earlier this month. "There was a carpenter's shop here where I have been working for the past eight years," said Abdulmalek Farajallah, who said more than 200 settlers had taken part in the attack. "They burned it down, and our neighbours' buildings and cars over there. No one can do anything."
Trump order leaves Afghans who were approved to resettle in the US in limbo
President Trump issued an executive order temporarily freezing all refugee resettlment programs, leaving at least 1600 Afghan refugees in a state of terrifying limbo. Many of them are the families of US servicemembers and Afghans who worked with the US against the Taliban, who surely would be arrested and/or killed if returned to Afghanistan. If the resettlement program is suspended indefinitely, it could wind up affecting as many as 30,000 to 40,000 Afghans currently in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Qatar. Just one more casual, shocking cruelty from a man with no conscience or shred of decency.

Musk responds to backlash over Sieg Heil gesture at Trump rally
Elon Musk said, "Frankly, they need better dirty tricks. The 'everyone is Hitler' attack is sooo tired." Which...very much does not deny that it was a Hitler salute. If Elon actually had meant something else, surely he'd say something like, "Oh no, I hate Nazis. I was sending my heart out to you guys! It definitely wasn't a Sieg Heil." But he didn't...because he did a Sieg Heil and we all know it because we all literally saw it.
