Today would be the 52nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Instead, we are facing unprecedented attacks on abortion rights, and millions of people in states across the nation have little or no access to this necessary and sometimes lifesaving care.

In fact, Virginia is the last state in the South without a post-Roe abortion ban, and we are determined to keep it that way. That is why we are working tirelessly to get abortion enshrined in our state constitution so we can remain a safe haven for abortion rights and ensure that people can get the care they want and need.

And we are making progress: On today’s would-be anniversary of a landmark decision, we are excited to see our amendment pass both the state House and Senate. Next up is crossover, where the chambers will vote on the other chamber’s version. This must happen before session ends next month.

This is just the first step in what will be a long process, but with our rights under threat by anti-choice extremists on the state and federal level, we are ready to play the long game. And we are asking you to join us.

In order to protect our rights, we must get abortion codified in the VA constitution. It won’t be easy, but we are already making great progress in the fight to make that happen.
