We’re about 24 hours into Donald Trump’s second presidency, and he’s already wreaking havoc on our democracy and communities across the nation.

On Day 1 alone, Trump and his administration:

• Issued an unconstitutional executive order attempting to end birthright citizenship;
• Announced ICE raids starting as soon as today in major cities like Chicago;
• Issued pardons for all of the 1,000+ January 6th insurrectionists, including far-right Oath Keepers and Proud Boys leaders and those charged with physically assaulting Capitol police;
• Withdrew the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement and World Health Organization;
• Issued an executive order declaring the federal government will only recognize two genders, undermining the dignity of transgender and non-binary Americans;
• Reversed a Biden-era executive order that lowered prescription drug costs for millions of people on Medicare;
• Restored the federal death penalty;
• Pulled down a government website dedicated to reproductive healthcare resources.

In order to protect communities across the country from Trump’s hateful attacks, we need strong working-class leaders in the Democratic Party that will fight back against Republican cruelty, expose the right’s divide-and-conquer tactics, and unite everyday people across all backgrounds against the billionaires and corporations picking our pockets.

This is not the time for establishment Democrats to throw our most vulnerable communities under the bus in the name of corporate bipartisanship. Bipartisanship with the Trump administration looks like doing the bidding of billionaires and abandoning the needs of working-class communities.

This moment demands more working-class leaders in the Democratic Party, unbeholden to the same corporate and billionaire interests as Trump and MAGA Republicans and unafraid to stand up for our values and our people.
