Hello Friend,
Welcome to my e-newsletter, the Ready Room. As a retired Naval Aviator, the Ready Room is special to me because it’s where fellow aviators meet to brief and debrief missions. This is my weekly briefing to you on my mission in Congress. Please follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube for regular updates on how my team and I are working to serve you in Congress.
NEW: VICE CHAIRMAN OF APPROPRIATION’S AGRICULTURE SUBCOMMITTEE
In the 119th Congress, I was reappointed to serve on the House Appropriations Committee, where I will keep fighting to responsibly allocate critical resources, rein in wasteful spending and restore fiscal sanity to the budget process. I am honored to serve as Vice Chair of the Agriculture Subcommittee and work to help our nation’s hardworking farmers, ranchers, growers and producers.
This Congress, I’m also excited to join the Energy and Water Development Subcommittee to craft budgets that prioritize our energy independence and fund critical water projects that fuel our economy and protect our environment.
As a tireless fighter for our national defense and military veterans, I’m eager to continuing serving on the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee to bolster national security projects that strengthen U.S. global leadership and enhance programs that improve servicemember and veteran quality of life. BIOLOGICAL MALES HAVE NO PLACE IN WOMEN'S SPORTS
Women's sports exist to provide a fair and equal environment for female athletes. It’s nonsensical that biological men would be allowed to participate in these spaces with a competitive advantage over women. As a father of two daughters, I understand how crucial it is to protect women’s safety and preserve access to fair competition. That’s why I cosponsored and voted for H.R. 28, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, to require school athletic programs to comply with the Title IX recognition of a person’s genetics at birth. The bill passed the House 218-206. It now awaits Senate action. Click here to learn more.
STAYING FINANCIALLY PREPARED FOR DISASTER RECOVERY
As we saw last year, hurricane season is unpredictable and can send deadly back-to-back storms Florida’s way with little notice. The damage can take years and years to recover from. Property insurance claims from deadly Hurricanes Helene and Milton topped five billion dollars. Floridians must do what they can to be prepared, and that includes saving for storm mitigation upgrades and clean-up efforts. That's why I cosponsored, H.R. 440, the READY Account Act, to enable Florida families to save personal hurricane funds by creating a tax-free “READY” account that operates like a Health Savings Account. This ensures families won’t have to wait on federal disaster assistance to begin recovery. Click here to learn more.
