Dear Friend,

When a tiny kitten was found alone with his deceased littermate, it was clear that as a lone survivor he was in desperate need of help. Cold, dehydrated, barely strong enough to eat, this fragile little soul was struggling to survive outside.

This is Galileo’s story. Tragically, it’s not unique. Winter takes its toll on homeless pets.

When we first carried Galileo into our Medical Center, it didn’t seem like he’d make it.

But with the warmth of a heating pad, round-the-clock assisted feedings, and the medical care he needed, he slowly started to perk up. Roundworm, a common condition in young kittens, didn’t derail him. But odds are, another night outside would have.

It was -6° at sunrise in Chicago this morning. The “feels like” temperature was -21°. Pets, like people, can’t withstand those temperatures for more than a few minutes. (Once temps drop below 20 F, pets risk hypothermia and frostbite.)

Our rescue team is on high alert on days like this, ready to bring homeless pets into the warmth and safety of our care. Your support today will have an immediate impact on homeless pets suffering through Chicago’s frigid winter.

And Galileo? Thanks to supporters like you, he’s safe and loved today in the cozy comfort of his new family.

He’s “an adorable little nugget,” his adopter told us. “Once he was recovered enough to be out and about he wasted no time getting to know his siblings and becoming best friends with his now brother, Chili (another PAWS foster fail). We’re so excited to have him as a part of the family.”

Please support our Cold Weather Rescue Fund today. ([link removed]) Together, we are building a No Kill Chicago and setting the future for all homeless animals to not just survive but thrive!
