Hey –
It’s Shaniqua, head of Vote Save America. If Election Night wasn’t enough, we’ve now entered the real nightmare — Donald Trump is back in the White House. The last 24 hours give only a glimpse of what’s to come from a man whose worst impulses have sunk to the depths of hell and who has surrounded himself with sycophants and corrupt billionaires.
This reality is hard to face, especially after fighting for democracy, only to be let down. But now, more than ever, we need each other. Over the next few months, we’re creating spaces for you to recharge and find solace in community. You’ll be able to join us for events, get to know each other, and let us thank you for your unwavering commitment to progress.
This doesn’t mean we don’t recognize the work that’s ahead of us. We need to throw our arms around the people in Trump’s immediate line of fire – that means immigrants, women, and LGBTQ+ people. There are also important elections happening this year and if we have any chance of reigning in the chaos, we’ll have to win the House back next year and start preparing for 2028!
That will require some investment now, because apparently democracy ain’t cheap. If you are able to give, you can support our efforts through the Anxiety Relief Program, our ongoing recurring donations program that ensures we can fund not only these elections but also efforts to mitigate the harm this administration will inflict on the most vulnerable.
To catch you up: In January of 2024, Vote Save America started our first-ever monthly recurring donations program and called it the Anxiety Relief Program. And now our anxiety has been relieved and everything is totally fine, right?? 🫠
The goal was to fund grassroots organizations and down ballot candidates that are often overlooked – and together, we did do that. We raised over $4 million and supported over 67 partner organizations and 58 downballot candidates at the state and local level. One incredible example is Gen Z candidate Dante Pittman, who, thanks to this fund, flipped a North Carolina State House seat, eliminating the Republican supermajority in NC and giving new Democratic Governor Josh Stein veto power.
Republicans have been dragging us backward, but we refuse to let them define the future. However, winning this fight will require a lot more than votes — it demands bold ideas for reform, effective leadership, an engaged citizenry, trustworthy institutions, and honest brokers in the media to hold people accountable and tell the truth. That’s why Vote Save America is expanding into more ambitious efforts to meet this moment head-on.
After Trump’s re-election, the stakes have never been higher. The progressive ecosystem needs initiatives like VSA’s recurring donations program to protect the progress we’ve made and fight harder than ever to support communities and organizations and elect leaders who will stand up for all of us at every level of government. That includes immediate local and statewide elections in 2025 where we can continue to build, and build back, progressive power.
That’s why we’re evolving the Anxiety Relief Program to meet this moment. If you can, consider giving an amount that’s comfortable to you on a monthly basis. Along the way, we’ll keep you posted on our programs and the organizations and campaigns that we fund. Your support will help us meet the threats of a second Trump administration.
We believe that by empowering citizens, restoring institutional effectiveness and trust, growing media that serves the public interest, and building communities that support one another, we can fix what is broken and build a better future for everyone.
Thank you for continuing to be in this fight with us. More soon.
Shaniqua,
Head of VSA
