Dear John,
Just over four years ago, on January 6th, rioters overran the US Capitol, attacking and injuring hundreds of members of law enforcement.
They were invited to violence by Donald Trump in an attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election - an election that was free and fair.
Yesterday, on his first day in office, President Trump pardoned nearly all of the 1,600 people charged or convicted for participating in the horrible events of that day. His blanket pardon includes far-right extremists that were convicted or charged with seditious conspiracy.
All Americans should condemn this action and be vigilant to the ongoing threat to our democracy. But I need your help. Will you stand with me? [[link removed]]
President Trump’s next act was to issue an order to end birthright citizenship. This is Unconstitutional and Un-American.
Those born in the United States who are not the children of diplomats are subject to our laws, protected by the 14th Amendment, and, therefore, American citizens. Our common citizenship derives from belief in a common creed, not a common origin. That is what makes us Americans. No President can simply will away a constitutional guarantee.
I am committed to continuing to protect the rights of Americans in this uncertain time. The frontline of the fight for our democracy and individual rights is our state legislatures. But I cannot do this alone. Will you join me by chipping in $25, $50, or $100 today? [[link removed]]
