Hi Friend,
After many months of working toward peace, Israel and Hamas have signed a
ceasefire agreement that has gone into effect to stop the fighting and
ensure the safe return of the remaining hostages.
I’m so relieved that we’ve finally reached this point, and appreciative of
the hard work the Biden Administration did to help broker the agreement.
Since the horrible events of October 7, I’ve been working with my
colleagues to ensure America supports Israel’s right to defend itself
while also protecting the human rights of civilians in Gaza. This
agreement marks a major step forward in the right direction.
The immediate next steps must be the safe return of all the hostages to
their families who have waited in agony since their kidnapping. And, we
must surge humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza who have suffered
immensely.
Looking ahead to the future, we must continue our work toward a two-state
solution so the people of Israel and Palestine can live peacefully next to
each other.
This will be a long road ahead, and it won’t be easy. But I will continue
doing my part to promote peace.
Thank you,
Peter
