John, here’s where we are: the Republican trifecta is in power again. Project 2025, GOP disinformation, program cuts, and extreme, unpopular legislation are all coming – some are already in the works with the first executive orders.
I’m not going to get into every detail of yesterday. Frankly, there is no point since most actions were for show and are already beginning to face legal challenges. But it is important to acknowledge the pattern that is already taking shape – blatant attempts to undermine our democracy, incite chaos, and abuse executive powers.
We’ll take every battle on as it comes, but for now, I want you to know one thing — I promise to use my platform to clearly communicate what is happening and how it will impact you, your family, and our communities.
In the coming weeks and months, there will be so much triggering rhetoric and chaotic headlines that we couldn’t even begin to cover it all. Nor do we feel that would be productive. What will help? Making sure you know about the actual legislation, executive orders, budget proposals, and hearings that will impact your life is my top priority – not adding to the hyperbolic language or inflated rhetoric meant to elicit an emotional response.
With that, what were some of the actions of note yesterday:
- Signed an order to end birthright citizenship, a blatant attempt to undermine the Constitution with executive power.
- Ended the federal website on reproductive health — a website where folks across the country could track their rights, laws, and tips on where to get help.
- What didn’t he do? Anything to address the main concern of all Americans: lowering costs.
We can’t forget that beyond the chaos and noise, there is actual work going on behind the scenes to implement Project 2025 and other heinous legislation — and we have a chance to stop it.

Whether or not you’re ready to get back into the fight, I want you to know that I will be in Congress doing my job. I’ll be introducing legislation the people want, I’ll be holding the GOP accountable for their actions, and I will be loud when I wholeheartedly disagree with something they do.
But I’ll also be in my district with my team continuing our outreach and organizing year-round. Because we know that’s what is needed to push back on the misinformation and disinformation we know are bound to wreak havoc on our communities and online spaces.
If you’re looking for action to take, here’s how you can: donate today to help me and my team stand up to this Republican trifecta.
If you’re not ready to get back into this, I understand. Your feelings are valid and I don’t blame you. But I will continue to reach out with updates, check-ins, and news so you can stay informed.
I intend to use this platform to sift through the noise and make sure you get what you need to stay up to speed on the actual proposals and GOP actions that will impact each of us. I’ll also be here with answers on how we can work to stop their worst moves when needed.
So if you still have some fight in you, donate today to help my team get ready as we face this uphill battle, together.
Thanks for sticking with us,
Mary Gay
