John,
Yesterday, Donald Trump showed us exactly what he meant when he vowed to be “ a dictator on day one .”
Within hours of taking office, he unleashed a blizzard of executive orders aimed at destroying progress on climate, dismantling American freedoms, and consolidating power in ways that should terrify all of us.
Trump’s assault on our democracy and environment has begun, but so has our resistance. Rush a donation to support leaders who will fight for climate justice and protect our communities from this administration’s deadly agenda. [[link removed]]
Here are some of the more egregious executive orders Trump signed yesterday:
* Withdrew from the Paris Climate Agreement. Once again, Trump isolated the U.S. from nearly 200 nations working together to combat the climate crisis, abandoning the global fight to curb emissions and protect our planet.
* Opened public lands and waters to fossil fuel drilling. Trump greenlit oil drilling and mining in some of the most fragile, irreplaceable wilderness areas — including Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
* Attacked clean energy progress. He aimed to repeal rules that promote electric vehicles and initiated a halt to leasing federal waters for wind farms, throwing obstacles in the way of renewable energy.
* Slashed protections for vulnerable communities. Trump ordered the elimination of government offices and programs designed to protect low-income and frontline communities from the devastating impacts of pollution and climate disasters.
And then, in true Trump fashion, he declared a national “energy emergency” because it gives him sweeping powers to bulldoze pipelines, fast-track fossil fuel projects, and dismantle clean energy progress.
Let’s call this what it is: authoritarianism in action. Declaring fake “emergencies” to hand power to his corporate donors and silence opposition is straight out of the dictator playbook. And Trump’s allies in Big Oil are celebrating and popping champagne while the rest of us face the consequences.
We’ve pushed back against Trump’s dangerous policies in the past, and now we’re ready to take him on again — but we need your help to fuel the fight.
Will you chip in $10, $25, or whatever you can to help us combat Trump’s destructive agenda, elect climate champions across the country, and build a firewall of state and local climate policies to protect our communities? [[link removed]]
