Hey John,
We need YOU to show support for the Right to Rescue! The Public Safety Neighborhood Services Committee of San Francisco will be discussing a resolution to support the activists facing charges in Sonoma County. If it passes, it would go to the full board of supervisors for a vote. Passing this resolution could help us establish the right to rescue animals! We want to show that people care about this issue. We will be attending their meeting online and speaking in support, and we need you there. Join us to Support the Right to Rescue in San Francisco this Thursday, May 28th, 9:30 AM.
If you're interested in getting more involved in this active community, apply to become a chapter member at dxe.io/apply.
Here are the other events we have happening this week (all will be taking place in Pacific Time, unless otherwise noted). Action events are highlighted in blue and community events are highlighted in orange -- both are crucial to our movement!
- Help Ban Dietary Racism (Call to action) - Help send a message to the US Dietary Guidelines Committee that dairy has no place on our plates as a food group for humans. If we get enough comments opposing the inclusion of dairy in dietary guidelines, there is a lot of pressure we can place on the committee. Use this link to submit a comment: https://www.regulations.gov/comment?D=FNS-2019-0001-6698. We have until June 1st to make comments!
- Tuesday, May 26th, 5:30 PM: How to Win: Civil Disobedience to Make History - In this training we will be discussing why we use civil disobedience as a tool to effect changes in our political system and how we can put these theories into practice. Topics covered in this training will range from knowing your rights to what to expect when getting arrested. This event is part of the Animal Liberation Online Assembly; you will receive information and instructions on how to join once you register for free at dxe.io/ALOA.
- Thursday, May 28th, 5:30 PM: The Revolution Will be Facilitated - In this advanced training, Johanna Nikoletos will present facilitation techniques along with an understanding of why facilitation is a valuable skill for organizers. Good facilitation can lead teams to make the most effective decisions, and good facilitators have a way of drawing creativity and ingenuity out of those involved. Learn how you can become a better facilitator, and walk away ready to navigate ideas and decisions with grace. This event is also part of the Animal Liberation Online Assembly; you will receive information and instructions on how to join once you register for free at dxe.io/ALOA.
- Friday, May 29th, 5 PM: Solidarity Speaker: Renegade Feedings - We are excited to begin our guest speaker series featuring activists and organizers from various local organizations helping to make the world a better place! Through these speaker events we aim to build more solidarity between organizations and causes, educate our community about different issues and groups, and expose other groups to the work we are doing. We proudly present out first guest speaker organization: Renegade Feedings. Please RSVP for the Zoom meeting link!
- Saturday, May 30th 11 AM: Meetup: Online Community Hangout - During shelter-in-place we have not only shifted Meetups online, but also shifted the focus from informative presentations to social hangouts! That's why for the last three weeks of May we're having informal community hangouts online. Join us on Saturday mornings to hangout, chat, and play games! To receive the Zoom call-in link, see instructions in the event page details.
- Saturday, May 30th, 1 PM: Moving Forward Together: ALOA Final Action and Closing Ceremonies - In the past few weeks, activists have come together at the Animal Liberation Online Assembly (ALOA) to train, take action, and connect with people all over the world. We will be wrapping up ALOA this Saturday with some closing ceremonies and taking a final action together. You will receive information and instructions on how to join once you register for free at dxe.io/ALOA.
- Saturday, May 30th, 8:30 PM: This is an Emergency: Divest from Animal Agriculture - If we don’t change our food system now, we could find ourselves with a new, highly lethal, rapidly moving pandemic that could kill millions of people. That is why we need to take action to demand that Berkeley divests from animal agriculture! During this action we will mourn the animals who have been killed during the pandemic, we will tell their stories, and raise awareness about our campaign. Everyone's safety is a priority, if you are sick or don’t feel comfortable going outside right now, please stay home and support our action online! For everyone attending in person, we will maintain social distance- that’s ten feet in between people. We also ask that everyone showers and wears freshly laundered clothes. Please bring a mask and keep it on at all times, this is mandatory in Berkeley. Please bring hand sanitizer. Also do not carpool with people who are not members of your household and avoid public transportation to come to this event. Please be sure to read the details in the event page for more precautionary instructions, meeting location, dress code, etc.
