*Governor Whitmer Makes Appointment to the Bench* 

 

*LANSING, Mich. *—Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the appointment of Corey Wiggins to the 84th District Court covering Wexford and Missaukee counties.  

 

“I am proud to appoint Corey to the bench for Wexford and Missaukee counties,” said *Governor Whitmer*. “He brings decades of experience to the role in a wide range of legal disciplines. I know he will serve the people well and uphold the rule of law.”

Corey J. Wiggins is currently the prosecuting attorney at the Wexford County Prosecutor’s office. Wiggins was first elected prosecutor in November of 2020 and was re-elected in November of 2024. He also served as the chief assistant prosecuting attorney in Wexford County from 2017 until his election.  Prior to his service as at the Wexford County Prosecutors Office, Wiggins was the owner of Wiggins Law Firm, PLC, focusing on criminal defense, business, law, real property law, and municipal law. Wiggins has also been a dedicated board member of the Cadillac Area Silent Observer since 2020 and the Cadillac Area YMCA since 2021. 

  

Corey Wiggins holds a Bachelor of Science in business management from Ferris State University and a Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. 

 

“I am humbled by the trust that Governor Whitmer has placed in me with the opportunity to continue to serve the citizens of Wexford and Missaukee counties in this new role,” said *Corey Wiggins*. “This is a responsibility and honor that I do not take lightly.” 

 

This appointment was made to fill a partial term following the resignation of Judge Audrey Van Alst. Judge Wiggins’s term will commence on January 22, 2025, and expire at twelve o’clock noon on January 1, 2027.
