 John, Any illusion about this Trump presidency being different from the last was shattered by his inauguration. Forget reducing the cost of goods for working families -- Donald Trump spoke more about the "Gulf of America", stealing the Panama Canal, about how much he had personally suffered, and his Manifest Destiny. In fact, he didn’t address the working class at all. He didn’t mention the struggles that so many Americans, Republican and Democrats alike, are facing, like the rising costs of housing and healthcare. His executive orders won’t make things easier for families. They won’t build more housing, make prescription drugs cheaper or retirement more secure. No. His first actions in office will be to attack immigrant families, defund schools, and gut climate policies and consumer protections. John, I was not elected to represent California’s 30th Congressional District to allow our values and goals to be eroded. Although I will attempt to seek out common ground with my colleagues across the aisle, I will also stand up against injustice, and for ordinary people. I am ready to fight with the renewed energy our communities deserve. Los Angeles continues to inspire me. It’s worth fighting for. In unity, Laura
