Email from The Institute for Free Speech I have a few suggestions that could help…   Hi John, Many presidents promise to “get things done on day one”—of course, the pomp and circumstance of Inauguration Day rarely allow for much else than a few speeches, some executive orders, and a little dancing. Speaking of speech… let’s talk about ways that the second Trump term can be a consequential one for First Amendment rights on day two and beyond… ICYMI, I outlined a few suggestions in a Wall Street Journal op-ed last month. In short, Trump needs a D.O.G.E. for free speech to reform several obvious targets: New rules for federal bureaucrats to prevent censorship requests to social media platforms Clarify IRS rules on nonprofits’ speech to prevent more self-censorship Repeal Securities and Exchange Commission limits on political donations There’s plenty more where that came from—but these actions alone would do much to cement his legacy as a “free speech president.” Cordially, David Keating P.S. – In the meantime, we’ll still be fighting for free speech rights either way.
