Kickoff MyImpact Challenge in Your Classroom

What is MyImpact Challenge? It is a civic engagement contest hosted by the Bill of Rights Institute.

What do you mean by civic engagement contest? In simpler terms, BRI wants to highlight students actively engaged in service, volunteerism, or entrepreneurship in their communities.

To enter, students must describe an idea they envisioned and brought to life, write an essay to connect their project to our founding principles and virtues, and share their impact through video or photos.

Who can apply? Any middle or high school student between the ages of 13 and 19.

The contest is open until May 18, 2025 at 11:59pm. All completed applications are judged and winners receive cash prizes!

Teacher Challenge!

Invite five students you know to learn more about MyImpact Challenge and create a contest login. Teachers who are credited can receive a $500 Teacher Submission Prize!

Tie MyImpact Challenge into Your Lesson

Identifying a problem is the first step toward a successful Myimpact Challenge project. How can you help students understand their impact big or small in the local community?

Start with these three questions.

What are the challenges that touch my life the most?
What am I most passionate about?
What would I most like to solve the challenges or problems of?

Lesson 1 of our MyImpact Challenge curriculum provides teachers with a Project Component guide to help students shape their ideas into actionable steps.

You can make connections between how the Founders impacted their local communities and the influence and range your students have in today's society.

MyImpact Challenge embodies the ideal of everyday citizens making change. As you introduce MyImpact to your students, explore our Black History Month resources and find examples of young people making change.

Help students find themselves in examples like Elizabeth Eckford of the Little Rock Nine, John Lewis and the Freedom Riders, and so many other students who were committed to their cause.

We continue to offer our array of resources and materials to you at no charge. In addition to hundreds of lessons and classroom-ready activities, we also maintain a Current Events page . Our team searches for recent news articles that explore relevant themes and connect those articles to our resources. And don’t forget about our Think The Vote platform – we hope it helps your student think critically about the world around them!
