First Renewal of the Year!
Congratulations to Torrie Maas for being the first educator to renew her certificate in 2025! Torrie, the principal of Hillside Elementary School at Farmington Public School District, renewed her Professional Teaching Certificate on January 1st. Please remember to renew your certification before the June 30 deadline.

Annual Certification Reminder and Requirements
Schools and districts should begin the annual review of staff credentials for 2025. Remind educators with a credential expiring June 30, 2025, to log into the Michigan Online Educator Certification System (MOECS) to update account information.
Educators should work with their employers to ensure they are ready for the 2025-26 academic year. Log into MOECS to check the status of a credential and professional learning prior to certificate renewal.

Reminder: Michigan Educator Evaluation Requirements Updated for 2024-25
Public Acts 224 and 225 of 2023 modified teacher and administrator evaluation requirements and removed the requirement for educator effectiveness ratings to be tied to teaching certificate progression. Learn more and stay informed by reviewing the updated MDE guidance about changes in law, including resources to support collective bargaining and evaluation system design. Additional resources include frequently asked questions, student growth, and student learning objectives resources, and the lists of state-approved evaluation tools for teachers and administrators at www.Michigan.gov/MDE-EdEvals.

27m National Board Recognized Achievement Grant - Round 2
The application for the second round of the 27m National Board Recognized Achievement Grant, pursuant to Section 27m of the State School Aid Act, opened January 13 and will close February 26, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. EST. This grant will be awarded to local education agencies, both traditional public school districts and public school academies, and intermediate school districts to award eligible teachers who hold National Board Certification at the time of application.

Certificate Application Fee Reimbursement Program
In case you missed it, MDE is continuing the Certificate Application Fee Reimbursement Program. The program has been designed to retain and incentivize early renewals of educators renewing their certificates for the first time. There is no need to apply for this reimbursement. The important thing to know is that this program is available until funds are exhausted. Please visit MDE’s Certificate Application Fee Reimbursement webpage for more information.
2025 Education Workforce Virtual Job Fairs
The 2025 virtual job fairs are open to employers of educators and all individuals seeking to work in the education field. They will leverage the Radancy (formerly Brazen) platform, which features increased functionality and ease of use.
