Dear John,

President Donald Trump’s inaugural address was a harsh rehash of his MAGA political agenda of grievance, division, and targeting his enemies. Trump’s promises are well known: massive deportations, tariffs that will hit working families in the pocketbook, accelerating the climate crisis, and launching a “golden age” for billionaires. In Trump’s America, the rich will get richer, working people will struggle, and America will be more isolated in the world.

Trump is keeping his darkest promises. He has already ordered the U.S. to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement. And, within hours of taking an oath to protect and defend the Constitution, Trump has pardoned 1,500 convicted and imprisoned insurrectionists and domestic terrorists–his MAGA supporters–who attacked the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. We are facing a White House that champions polluters and celebrates violent extremists.

We need to stand strong and tough. As Democrats and people who care deeply about our families, our freedoms, and the future of our planet, we know what is coming and we must stand united to defend our values, protect our communities, and never surrender our commitment to this democracy. That means we work to defeat Trump and his MAGA Republicans at every level: on the House floor, in the courts, and at the ballot box!
