We can’t be distracted or distraught on days like today. Instead we must keep fighting for what we believe one day at a time.
The six biggest U.S. banks -- Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo, Citigroup, Bank of America, and Morgan Stanley -- just withdrew from the Net-Zero Banking Alliance, a global effort to align financial practices with the Paris Climate Agreement.
By walking away, these banks are doubling down on financing fossil fuels and abandoning their commitments to a livable future.
Here’s the truth: These financial giants are some of the biggest funders of oil, gas, and coal projects worldwide. While we face record-breaking temperatures, wildfires, and floods, they’re pouring billions into the industries fueling this crisis.
Their actions are an existential threat to our planet and we know why they’re doing this. It’s about profit over people and short-term greed over long-term survival. But this doesn’t have to be our future, we can pressure these banks to divest from destruction and reinvest in a renewable, sustainable economy.
Demand that Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo, Citigroup, Bank of America, and Morgan Stanley stop funding the climate crisis and start investing in solutions.
Every dollar invested in fossil fuels locks us into more emissions, more environmental devastation, and deeper harm to frontline communities who live near refineries and pipelines and are already suffering the worst impacts of pollution and climate change.
When we push back, we win. Activists have already pressured banks to limit coal financing, reject Arctic drilling projects, and scale back funding for destructive pipelines.
This is our moment to go further, to demand a financial system that works for people and the planet, not against it. Let’s show these banks that the public is watching and won’t tolerate their complicity in the destruction of our planet.
The climate crisis isn’t waiting, and neither can we. Tell big banks: Divest from fossil fuels and invest in our future.
Together, we can hold Big Banks accountable and build a better world.
