We won’t sugarcoat it — today is a tough day.
Donald Trump was just sworn in for his second term as President, surrounded by the ultra-wealthy elites who look down on us and our communities.
Let’s not forget what happened during his first term. Trump dismantled equal pay. He stripped away overtime pay and minimum wage for millions of workers — all while giving big tax breaks to his millionaire and billionaire buddies.
Donald Trump threatened our democracy. He lied to the American people. He gave a platform to hate, racism, and bigotry.
It’s understandable if today makes you anxious about the next four years. But here’s the truth: this fight isn’t over. Far from it.
Like Deb said at the Albuquerque People’s March yesterday:
“We will need to do the hard work of getting important things done and pushing back against an administration who couldn’t care less about regular people — about people like us. We will need to unapologetically stand up to make change. To ensure that your voices are heard. We need more people with real lived experiences elected to office and serving our communities as doctors, scientists, CEOs, so that solutions reflect who we are. We’re going to fight to keep books in libraries, instead of in bonfires. We’re going to fight to remind the people in power that they answer to us.” |
This fight will require all of us, but together we can make meaningful change and stand strong against Donald Trump.
So let’s get to work.
In solidarity,
Team Deb Haaland
