John,
Today, as we celebrate the life and legacy of the great Reverend Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr., I know all of us are also deeply worried about
what the next four years will bring with Donald Trump back in the White
House.
I won’t be in Washington, D.C. today for Trump’s inauguration. Instead, I
am spending the day right here at home, with my constituents, serving food
to the hungry — honoring the work, life, legacy, and lessons of Dr. King.

Dr. King committed his life to the fight for racial and economic justice.
And over the next four years, we’re going to have our work cut out for us
to defend the progress he helped to make and to keep up the fight.
It’s crucial that we don’t become complacent or intimidated into silence.
Trump and his MAGA allies have threatened our democracy and some of our
most fundamental rights, and as of today they’re now in a position to
start acting on those threats.
As a Member of Congress, I’ll work each and every day to defend our rights
and make life better for working families in Seattle and throughout this
country. But I can’t do it alone.
Just like last time, it’s going to take a mass nationwide movement to
successfully push back against the kind of MAGA extremism that Trump and
the Republicans are pushing. [ [link removed] ]John,
will you add your name to make it clear
you’re with us in this fight?

Before I sign off, I want to leave you with this. The night before he was
assassinated, Dr. King noted to a crowd of striking workers that “The
world is all messed up. Trouble is in the land. Confusion all around. But
I know, somehow, that only when it is dark enough, can you see the stars.”
He was right then. He is right now. We will make it through this together.
In solidarity,
Pramila Jayapal
