Today, we remember the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.
When I reflect on the work of the School Board Integrity Project, I see the vision of Dr. King. Of the many things for which he was a champion, education equity was one. In addition to influencing the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Dr. King's work also laid the foundation for the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965. Together, these pieces of legislation helped desegregate schools broaden opportunities.
It's difficult to believe we're only 60 years past segregated schools.
It's also difficult to see many of the same challenges still present today, including the chipping away of equal opportunities in our schools.
To fully celebrate and uphold the advocacy of Dr. King, it's crucial we keep up the fight for schools that are welcoming, inclusive, and built on fact and truth. We'll keep fighting on our end –
