Once again, I find myself on the doorstep of a White House that I am too familiar with.
The fight ahead won’t be easy, but this time, we know exactly what we’re up against: a Trump administration that lies, chooses billionaires over working-class people, and that threatens to carry out cruel and destructive attacks on immigrant, trans, and queer communities.
Trump will go against immigrants like my mom Margarita, who juggles three jobs as a restaurant worker, or my uncle Javier, who works as a landscaper and gardener in Texas. He’ll try to remove the birthright citizenship of children born to immigrant parents — teachers, grocery store workers, and vital community members who have built their entire lives here, like my sisters Yuritzi and Yadira.
He’ll stop at nothing to uproot the lives of hundreds of thousands of DACA recipients who have built their families, homes, and careers in the U.S. Continued attacks on DACA, like last week’s Fifth Circuit Court ruling, are a reminder of everything that is at stake.
There’s no hiding from it: with Trump officially taking office today, we’ll need all hands on deck from Day 1 to protect immigrant communities and fight for a better future for our communities! 🤝
