Hi John,

As I write, Donald Trump is beginning his second term as US president, with corporate America not just waiting in the wings but all over the stage. From the climate crisis to the treatment of migrants to the very future of democracy, there’s no doubt the next four years are going to be tough – not just in America but around the world.

Trump is a product of a deeply unequal economy driven by corporate power. But in office, he will only exacerbate that inequality, as the Big Tech titans now surrounding his administration demonstrate. We need to build a very different international economy, tearing down the rule of big business and replacing it with an economy that works for the majority of the world and our planet.

This is going to affect all of us, and it requires action here in Britain. Worryingly, our own government has already said it wants to sign a trade deal with Trump. We know that means giving enormous US corporations more power – over our food system, our public services and the growing digital economy. We need to stop that.

But we must also stand together across borders to limit the damage of Trump, as part of our global movement for justice. We can – and must – stand up against big corporations and the politicians doing their bidding around the world.

But John, we can only do that with your backing. I know times are tight for many of us, but if you’re in a position to support our work, now is the time to join Global Justice Now and be part of the fightback.

With your help we can:
  • Build a campaign to stop a toxic trade deal with Trump. We will not let our government sign away our protections to appease the US administration. We’ve beaten a trade deal before, and we can again.
  • Create one of the biggest mobilisations in favour of climate action in history. This is a crucial year. Trump might withdraw from the Paris agreement, but the rest of the world must show that it will not join him – and is moving on without him.
  • Challenge corporate power. At root, Trump and his friends like Elon Musk, are products of an economy dominated by monopolies. We won’t undermine their hatred unless we build a very different global economy. This is a mammoth task, but it’s at the core of why we exist. Join us, and make the movement against corporate power stronger.
